A district court has sentenced a man to two months in jail for injuring his friend while driving drunk, Changning District People's Court said Friday.
The driver, surnamed Zhu, had gotten drunk during a dinner with friends at a local restaurant, according to a court press release.
After seeing that the clearly inebriated Zhu intended to drive home, one of his friends, who was not identified, walked up to the car and tried to pull Zhu out of the driver's seat, the court said.
Zhu resisted and managed to close the door, trapping his friend's clothing, the court said. Zhu pulled away, failing to notice his friend's clothing was caught. He ended up dragging his friend several meters.
Restaurant waiters called the police and took the friend to the hospital. Police arrested Zhu the next day when he showed at the hospital for a visit. Police said Zhu's blood alcohol level was 162 milligrams per milliliter, almost twice the legal limit.
The court also fined Zhu 2,000 yuan ($325.65).
