Beijing is starting to look more and more like Holland in 1636. But instead of tulips, prices are soaring in almost everything. Including crawfish.
Last year a cheap crawfish sold for 3 yuan($0.49). This year they are 5 yuan - and 10 yuan for the big ones, according to the Beijing Evening News.
An employee of the Xinwen Shiwu restaurant on Guijie, a popular destination for spicy seafood, explained, "Wild crawfish isn't allowed to be sold. So cultured crawfish in high demand," he noted.
Jianbing breakfast pancakes, taxi rides, and rent are among other items experiencing a tremendous run-up in prices.
