Landslides & traffic delay relief supplies

At the top of the program, we continue our coverage of the aftermath of the magnitude-7 earthquake that hit Lushan County in Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The disaster has claimed the lives of 193 people and injured more than 12-thousand, since the tremor struck last Saturday. 25 residents from the quake-stricken area are reported still missing.

Heavy rainfall that started late last night is making already tough road conditions worse, hampering rescue and relief operations. Traffic control measures are in place on roads in and out of Longmen, Lingguan, Baoxing and surrounding villages to expedite the passage of rescue teams and machinery.

The Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Relief Command Center reports delays to deliveries of supplies due to landslides, mountainous terrain and traffic congestion. Authorities are urging individual volunteers not to drive to the disaster areas in order to keep the roads clear.
