36 specialist teams of expert geologists have now arrived in the quake zone, to try to predict continued seismic activity in the area. Some 300 geologists will study the areas thought to be most prone to aftershocks and landslides, in order to avoid casualties among the rescuers.
Cui Ying, Ministry Of Land And Resources, said, "Our focus is on potential secondary disasters triggered by the main quake, such as collapses, landslides and mudslides. Aftershocks have been continuing since we came here yesterday. Rescue teams and residents in the danger areas still face some risks from geological activity. So we will pay special attention to key areas hit hard by earthquake."
The geologists have been sent to various parts of the quake-zone. As well as trying to predict landslides and other dangers, they'll assist with selecting special relocation sites, away from the danger. Many preventive measures have already been taken to avoid deaths and injury from secondary disasters, and so far, no casualties or property losses have been reported since the main quake struck on Saturday morning.
