The results of the 2012 National Reading Survey have been released. It was the tenth survey by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.

On average, the number of traditional paper books read last year was 4.39 per person. That's considerably less than South Korea, where people read an average of 11 books. It's also half the number in France and Japan.

Even so, the number of books, including electronic books rose from last year. But magazine and newspaper reading fell. Most people say they don't think they read very much.

For people between 18 to 70, they think their reading amoun is small and roughtly 70 percent of people wish to have more reading activities sponsered by related deparments to support the reading habit.

30% of people read using their mobile phones, on average for more than 40 minutes a day. And there was a big increase in the amount of Weibo and blog reading. But there was a drop in the amount reading by people under 18.
