US Secretary of State John Kerry is set to visit China over the coming weekend. The visit comes at the invitation of China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi. It is also Kerry's first trip to China since assuming his new responsiblities.
Hong Lei said, "During the visit, the two sides will exchange views on Sino-American relations, and on international and regional issues of common concern."
Spokesperson Hong Lei said that bilateral relations between the two countries had entered a transitional phase, and were facing new opportunities of development. He said that China was willing to maintain high-level contacts with the US, promote strategic mutual trust, and deepen mutual understanding of the peoples of the two countries.
He also said that the two countries should continue to build up a cooperative partnership, and contribute to an improved livelihood of people in the two countries and around the world. John Kerry began his 10- day tour to the Middle East, Europe, and north east Asia on Sunday. Besides China, Kerry will also visit South Korea and Japan.
