More than 521,000 notifiable cases of infectious disease were reported in China in March, contributing to the deaths of 1,360 people, the country's health authorities revealed Monday.

Two deaths in March caused by H7N9, a newly-discovered type of bird flu, were not included in the 1,360 deaths, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC).

The new type of avian influenza has not been classified as a notifiable infectious disease in China. It has killed seven people as of Monday afternoon.

A total of 1,344 deaths were caused by Category B notifiable diseases, which include hepatitis, phthisis, syphilis and gonorrhea, according to the NHFPC.

Category C infectious diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease and epidemic parotitis, killed 16 people in March, according to the NHFPC.

No Category A infectious diseases, which include plague and cholera, were reported in the month.
