2013-04-05 10:40 Xinhua     Web Editor: Wang YuXia comment

Millions of Chinese went out for tomb-sweeping on Thursday following an age-old tradition to mourn their deceased family members on the Qingming Festival.

Nearly 7.86 million people joined the move on the day, also known as the Tomb-Sweeping Day, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs that monitored 150 major cemeteries nationwide. The figure was up about 12 percent from the holiday last year.

More than 30,000 people across the country helped ensure a sound tomb-sweeping order, according to the ministry.

The public have been advised to take public transportation during the holiday, embrace a green way of paying homage to the deceased, and take precautions against fire accidents.
