A female passenger has been given five days of detention for slapping a stewardess across her face on a plane waiting to depart Friday from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Shanghai airport police said on its microblog.
"Shanghai Airlines flight FM9173 failed to take off on time from Pudong International Airport Friday because there were too many planes still waiting to take off," a representative of Shanghai Airlines said. "A passenger lost patience and became angry after asking the flight attendant when the plane would depart."
The incident followed two other cases of airline passenger misbehavior last month. Three passengers ran onto the tarmac Tuesday at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport after their flight was delayed due to bad weather, the news website xinhuanet.com reported Friday. The passengers pushed the airport staff out of their way and shouted insults at them. Two of the passengers were detained for 20 days. The other was detained for 10 days.
In another incident in Jiangxi Province, a passenger cited other passengers to rush the boarding gate of Nanchang Changbei International Airport because his flight was canceled. He was given 10 days of detention, the Nanchang Evening News reported Tuesday.
