Service on all flood-affected highways and railways in northern China's Shanxi Province has been restored. This is according to local officials. The roads and railways had earlier been shut due to a dam collapse in the Quting Reservoir on Friday.

On Sunday afternoon, departing from Taiyuan, Train No. 1485 passed the Hongtong Section of the Nantongpu Railway, indicating the lifeline of Shanxi Province had been restored. Later, the flood-disrupted Huohou Road was repaired and opened to traffic Sunday evening.

According to local officials, more than 3,000 stranded train passengers will depart over the next few days.

Over 80 percent of the evacuated residents have returned home and the government has put the rest up in temporary camps.

The age of the reservoir is being blamed for the collapse.
