2013-02-07 15:35 Global Times     Web Editor: Gu Liping comment

Shanghai's metro authority has stopped 1,100 banned items and 3,700 hazardous goods from going through subway security in January, local media reported Wednesday.

Some 6.5 million passengers ride the subway each day in the city, with more than 1 million items passing through security.

During January, subway security found 2,000 items with flammable liquid inside and 453 knives, which passengers are not allowed to carry on the subway.

Security personnel will confiscate any items they find passengers carrying on the subway.
