Wang Yifu elected Taiwan compatriots' federation president

Wang Yifu has been elected president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots (ACFTC), the group announced Thursday.

The federation said the five-day Taiwan compatriots' congress, which concluded on Thursday in Beijing, resulted in the election of a new 96-member council for the ACFTC.

Wang was elected president of the federation, while 14 others, namely Wang Song, Ye Huili, Jiang Erxiong, Ji Bin, Su Hui, Yang Yizhou, Wu Guozhen, Wu Kaiqi, Wu Qiongkai, Zhang Zexi, Chen Jie, Lin Mingyue, Liang Guoyang and Yan Ke, were elected as vice chairpersons.

Addressing the congress's closing session Thursday, Wang said the federation's new leadership will strive to break new ground in rallying Taiwanese compatriots for the peaceful development of cross-strait ties and achieving China's reunification.
