Family blames hospital for infant boy's death

The family of an infant boy who was injured in a car accident and later died in a hospital in Sheyang, Jiangsu province, has accused the hospital where he was taking for treatment of being responsible for the death.

The family has blamed the death on doctors who insisted that they pay a registration fee before the 89-day-old boy would be treated, according to a report by people.com.cn.

The baby, Ba Chengxuan, was sent by police to Sheyang People's Hospital around noon on Saturday, after his 23-year-old mother had died at the site of a serious car accident.

Wen Naixiang, the baby's grandmother, said four doctors in the hospital's emergency room refused to treat the boy until a registration fee had been paid.

Wen said she waited in the hospital for an hour, and no one was willing to help the baby during that time. She insisted that the hospital's delay in providing treatment cost her grandson his life, according to the report.

The hospital denied there was any truth to the accusations, saying the baby died 34 minutes after being sent to the emergency room and as a result of the injuries he had suffered in the car accident.

The hospital said an investigation is being conducted into the death and the results of it will be released to the baby's family in three days, according to the report.
