Chinese documentary meeting held

The first annual meeting of the Chinese documentary industry is now underway in Beijing. Hosted by CCTV's Documentary Channel, more than 100 documentary production companies and institutions are discussing the outlook for the industry.

Launched at the beginning of 2011, CCTV Documentary Channel has a separate Chinese and English broadcast. It has now become a window on the rich culture and heritage of China and the world.

It also provides opportunities for Chinese original documentaries, and promotes the development of the documentary making industry in China. During the meeting, a Chinese documentary producing association was set up, to further promote cooperation.

Zhang Li with Central New Film Philharmonic Group said, "After a year's cooperation, our productivity has increased a lot. In 2011, there were 100 programs, this year, the number has increased to 250."

The launch of CCTV Documentary Channel has established a multi-lingual, multi-dimensional landscape for the Chinese documentary industry.

So far, the amount of Chinese homemade documentary broadcasts on the channel exceeds 2500 hours, and other imported programs of 1000 hours. Themes include nature, history, humanity, and social issues.

CCTV's Documentary Channel can now be seen in more than 60 countries and regions, reaching 30 million viewers, and has become one of CCTV's most important brands.
