In the capital Beijing, authorities have closed some highways, including parts of the Beijing-Hong Kong- Macao expressway. Temperatures are expected to drop to freezing on road surfaces, raising the possibility of ice forming. Flights are also being delayed at Beijing International Airport as staff work to clear runways.
Beijing authorities have urged the public to be cautious of ice-covered roads and drive slowly. The National Meteorological Center forecasts heavy snow and rain to sweep across central and eastern China over the next three days.
