China looks to constructive U.S. role in Asia-Pacific

A spokeswoman for China's Foreign Ministry Monday called for a "constructive" U.S. role in Asia-Pacific, saying China is ready to work with it to jointly promote the region's peace, stability and prosperity.

"China pursues an Asia-Pacific view featuring openness, inclusiveness and win-win. China hopes the United States will play a constructive role in Asia-Pacific affairs," said Hua Chunying.

Hua made the remarks at a regular press briefing as U.S. President Barack Obama chose Asia-Pacific as his first destination after reelection.

She said China has noticed the U.S. pledge to focus more on economic cooperation in pursuing its rebalancing strategy in Asia Pacific. "We are also glad to see a strategy shift, which is more in line with the times and regional countries' common desire to seek peace, development and cooperation," Hua said.

She added that China is ready to work with the United States and regional countries to jointly promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.
