A pile-up Saturday in Fu'an, Fujian Province, left five people injured. Relatives of the injured and others later staged a protest and smashed up police vehicles, while police said the violence was incited by some people with bad intentions.
The Fu'an police published the news on its official microblog, saying that at 7:48 pm on November 17, two cars and three motorcycles collided outside the Shijing Hanyang Hotel, injuring five.
About 10 minutes later, a police officer arrived at the scene and called for back up. The first ambulance arrived at 8:21 pm and all injured people were sent to hospital for treatment before 8:39 pm.
The accident later triggered a public protest, apparently targeting the police, in which three police cars were damaged.
Some family members of the injured and on-lookers became agitated. They began to push doctors and strike at the rescue cars. The police stepped in to calm the situation and escorted the rescue services back to the hospital, according to the official microblog of the Fu'an police.
The Fu'an police later blamed people with malicious intentions for inciting the violence. After the accident, the government of Fu'an established an investigation group to deal with the emergency.
The driver who caused the accident, surnamed Jiang, was taken in for questioning and confessed to having taken drugs three days before the crash. By midnight, all people had left the area.
