A 24-year-old man surnamed Chen was given a suspended death sentence Wednesday by Beijing First Intermediate Court, reported the Legal Mirror Wednesday.
Chen murdered his wife by strangulation on May 7, 2012 after the couple had a fight over marital problems in a basement in Haidian district.
According to Chen, his wife proposed a divorce the day after he was diagnosed as infertile. Unable to contain his anger about how to divide their joint property, Chen attacked his wife.
After the murder, he attempted suicide by slitting his wrist, but was saved by property management staff.
