UNESCO's science report launched in Chinese

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched the Chinese edition of its Science Report 2010 in Beijing on Tuesday.

The original version of the report, which was written in English, was published in November 2010.

This is the first time that UNESCO publishes the report in Chinese.

UNESCO previously released science reports in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 2005, all in English.

Written by 35 scholars from both developed and developing countries, the report focuses on the development of science and technology in major regions and countries across the world between 2006 and 2010.

According to the report, China has been a major contributor in promoting the development of scientific and technological research and development (R&D) in Asia with its investment in science and technology increasing by 20 percent every year in the period.

The future development of science and technology in the world will be more multi-polarized and balanced between emerging economies and the traditional leaders like the United States, Europe and Japan, the report said. The Chinese edition of the report aims to provide Chinese decision-makers, policy researchers and those who care about the development of science and technology with the new information around the world, Wang Chunfa, executive secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology, which led the translation project, said at the launching ceremony.
