Leninism still relevant to China: CPC think tank

Leninism still has relevance in China, a communist theory expert said Wednesday while explaining why the Communist Party of China (CPC) is upholding Leninism as one of its guiding philosophies.

Yan Jianqi, a researcher with the Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, said at a press conference that Leninism offered guidance for poor and weak countries to build socialism in colonial times.

"The failure of the Stalinist model, or the model of the former Soviet Union, doesn't necessarily mean Leninism has nothing good to learn from," Yan said.

Zhang Hongzhi, vice director of the Party Literature Research Office, said Leninism addressed an important problem in colonial times by raising the idea of securing national independence for colonized or semi-colonized countries.

The CPC enshrines Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and the "Three Represents" as its guiding philosophies.

The Wednesday press conference, held by the International Communication Office of the CPC Central Committee, also detailed the progress made by the Party Literature Research Office in studying and compiling Party theory and literature.
