Chinese ambassador to Myanmar Li Junhua, on behalf of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), donated a cash aid of 50,000 U.S dollars to the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) Wednesday for victims in Ayeyawaddy region, southern part of Myanmar hit by recent severe flood.
The cash aid was handed over to responsible official of the MRCS U Kyi at a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw.
Li conveyed words of sympathy to the Myanmar side on behalf of Red Cross Society of China over the loss of life and property caused by the natural disaster.
With deep sentiment, he said, peoples of China and Myanmar have been helping each other ever since, recalling that China once extended a helping hand to Myanmar victims when Myanmar was hit by cyclone Nargis and earthquake in the northeast and adding that Myanmar also helped Chinese victims when China was struck by earthquake in Wenchuan and drought in the southwest part of the country.
The MRCS official also spoke words of thanks to the Chinese side.
Flood triggered by ceaseless heavy rainfall hit Myanmar's Ayeyawaddy and Bago regions in the past month, devastating 213,840 hectares of farmlands as reported.
The flood brought 55 townships in Ayeyawady, Bago, Yangon, Mon, Kayin and Shan states and regions under water, leaving thousands of people homeless.
Out of 213,840 hectares' flooded paddy fields, 22,990 hectares were completely ruined, according to reports.
