More than 70 percent of young laborers in Guangzhou have to spend Qixi Festival, known as Chinese Valentine's Day, alone, New Express reported Thursday.
Only 29 percent of laborers in Guangzhou, in South China, have partners, according to a survey of 20,000 workers with an average age of 23.6, by daguu.com, an Internet platform providing employment service.
The survey found that the low level of income, gender imbalance and narrow social network are major blocks to finding a girlfriend or a boyfriend. For instance, nearly 30 percent of respondents said their wages were too low to find a proper date.
Qixi Festival falls on Aug 23 this year, the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. It has come to be known as Chinese Valentine's Day.
