Disrupted railway service resumes in SW China

    2012-07-09 13:40 Xinhua    comment

Traffic on a major railway in southwest China's Sichuan province resumed at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday morning, nearly seven hours after services on the line were disrupted by a rain-triggered landslide, local authorities said.

Persistent rain triggered a landslide around 7:48 p.m. on Sunday, leaving a section of the Baoji-Chengdu railway near the city of Guangyuan blocked, according to the Xi'an Railway Bureau, which has jurisdiction over the section of the route.

Several passenger trains were delayed as a result, the railway bureau said.

More than 1,000 people were sent to clear and repair the railway overnight despite heavy rain.

The Baoji-Chengdu Railway is a key north-south railway line in west China, linking the city of Baoji in northwestern province of Shaanxi, and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan.
