Two people have been detained by police and eight others suspended from their posts following a Hunan Province kindergarten fire on Sunday that led to two children dead and three injured, local government sources said Monday.
Chen Li, head of Lantian Kindergarten in Rucheng county in the city of Chenzhou, and nurse Ou Xiuqiu were transfered to judicial organs, while eight others -- including officials from the county's education bureau -- were suspended from official posts, according to a spokesman of the county government.
The blaze started in Lantian Kindergarten around midnight.
Smoke suffocated two toddlers and injured three others. The injured children have been sent to hospital and are in a stable condition.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
