Chinese female players win 11th Asian Continental Chess Championships

Three Chinese female players, Zhao Xue, Wang Jue and Tan Zhongi, won top titles in the blitz chess category at the 11th Asian Continental Chess Championships, which was wrapped up in Vietnam' s southern Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.

Zhao Xue (Elo 2549) became the champion, winning seven points, while her teammates Wang Jue (Elo 2364) and Tan Zhongi (Elo 2430) who bagged the same points as Zhao Xue, but inferior in the extra coefficient, were ranked second and third places.

So Wesley (Elo 2653) from the Philippines won the men's championship title with 7.5 points, and Nguyen Van Huy (Elo 2502) from Vietnam bagged the silver medal in men' s blitz chess category.

In the standard chess category, Indian player Negi Parimarjan (Elo 2640), the world's 7th seed, and Indonesian player Sukandar Irine Kharisma (Elo 2288), won the men's and women's championship titles respectively.

The tournament was held in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh City, from May 5 to May 13, with the participation of more than 120 men and women players from 14 countries and regions in Asia.

Players competed in nine rounds of standard and blitz events according to the Swiss System, to win prizes worth a total of 65,000 U.S. dollars.

Organizers said the leading five male and one female players in the standard chess event were qualified for the finals in the World Chess Championships to be held in Norway next year.
