Driver blamed for fatal Shanghai collision

A truck that sped through a red light in Shanghai slammed into a bus Thursday leaving a man dead and 31 others injured, local authorities said.

The accident happened around 1:10 p.m. when the two vehicles collided in the island county of Chongming, a county government spokesman said.

The truck driver who ran the red light, surnamed Huang, is being questioned by police, as his actions are believed to have caused the crash.

Among the injured, 19 people are still being treated at different hospitals in Shanghai, while 12 others who suffered slight injuries have been discharged from hospital, the spokesman said.
