Boyce decides it is time to get high in Beijing

Rooftops continue to open across the city as the weather warms, with Fez Bar officially joining them tonight. Set atop Spanish restaurant Agua, in Nali Patio, it offers a good central location and easy access to the late-night parties at Migas, two floors up, and other rooftops in the area.

Also in Nali Patio, fellow Spanish restaurant Niago has introduced a new menu. Diners can expect to find new paella dishes, seafood and cold cuts from Spain, and both traditional and modern takes on tapas.

Like a drop of java in a sea of cheese, a new coffee shop has opened in China View, a complex much better known as home to about a half-dozen places to get pizza. On the second floor, above Gung Ho and Yummy Box, two of those ubiquitous pizza joints, this place currently sports a sign with the name Tao, the name of the previous establishment, but will soon go by O Henry Cafe. This café uses coffee beans from Yunnan. The food menu is limited at the moment, with sandwiches, dumplings and a few other items.

Speaking of pizza, it looks like Kro's Nest is becoming a bird of a different feather, a night owl to be more precise. Both of its branches - the one in Sanlitun South and the one on Xiaoyun Lu - have started a "Nocturnal Animals" special that goes from 10 pm to midnight, Sundays through Wednesdays. The deal sees a free upgrade of a medium pizza to a large one and the options include the "Artery Clogger" on Sundays, the "Honolulu" on Mondays, the "Cheese Burger" on Tuesdays and the "Veg Head" on Wednesdays.

Several dozen Napa Valley vintners flooded into Beijing last week to spread the word about American wine. Dinners were held at Vasco's, Brasserie Flo, Grange, Temple and Maison Boulud by Chifan for Charity, while wine distributor ASC organized two high-end affairs, one for Opus One at the Reignwood Center and the other for Stag's Leap, Shafer and Phelps in Grill 79.

And there is more free wine to come. Carrefour in Shuangjing will hold its three day spring wine festival from tonight with a free tasting starting at 6 pm.

Meanwhile, Le Petit Gourmand in Tongli Studio continues its monthly wine series, this time with a focus on Italy.

Le Petit Gourmand has also started showing classic French movies, with English subtitles, on its terrace on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. And Moment Cafe is also getting into that spirit. This Sanlitun Soho place is screening a horror movie every Tuesday night, and offering 15 percent off food, under the theme "Scary Moment."
