More functions will be added to the Oriental news stalls on city streets, Shanghai's postal service authorities said in reply to a proposal by a Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Committee member.
The 2,000 stalls might provide ticketing services to residents for both cultural performances and sports events. The newsstands were launched in the 1990s to provide jobs for laid-off workers during the economic reforms of the era.
