Changing lives of migrant children through theatre

Beijing, capital of a rapidly developing China, where soaring economic growth is matched with soaring skylines. But a one hour bus journey outside of the city brings you to another world. Forming a ring around china's major cities are villages populated almost entirely by migrants; rural residents who have come from village to the city in search of higher incomes for their families.

Many of the estimated 27 million children who accompany their families to the cities find themselves unable to enter the public schooling system. Instead they end up in migrant schools which lie on the outskirts of Beijing in Villages such as Picun, Chaoyang District.

With parents often having to work long hours, children find themselves missing out on more than just the material benefits that urban children enjoy. This is where those working at Hua Dan, a non-profit organization dedicated to using theatre to unlock participants full potential seeks to help.
