Security improvements underway at Palace Museum

(Ecns.cn)--The security system of the Palace Museum in Beijing is now receiving a series of modifications that will greatly improve the safety of its collections, according to the museum's new curator Shan Jixiang on Tuesday.

"The world's cutting-edge technology will be applied to the museum, and we will also invest more to train our staff," said Shan.

The modifications will enable security guards to photograph crime scenes directly after receiving a warning, he added, and the system will identify the location two seconds after receiving the alarm.

The project is expected to be completed in November 2013. During the construction period, the museum will try to minimize inconvenience to tourists, he said.

The security system of the museum was once touted as one of the world's best, but that reputation was undermined last year when a burglar stole seven pieces from the museum.
