A 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan's Pingtung at 10:34 Beijing Time (02:34 GMT) on Sunday, said the China earthquake network center (CENC).
The epicenter was monitored at 22.8 degrees north latitude and 120.8 degrees east longitude with a depth of 20 kilometers, according to the CENC.
Taiwan's meteorological authorities said the epicenter of the quake, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, was 30.4 km northeast of Pingtung County.
The quake was followed by two tremors, measuring 4.0 magnitude and 4.2 magnitude respectively, in a few minutes, according to the meteorological authorities.
The quakes could be felt in Taipei. No casualties have been reported so far.
