Forty-six trains designed to run at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour on the new Line 16 subway - with forward-positioned seats only - will be the fastest trains in Shanghai when they are put into operation, the city's subway operator said Monday.
The first phase of the Pudong New Area subway line, which is expected to link Lingang New City to Longyang Road by 2014 over nearly 59 kilometers of track, is slated to open with the new trains by the end of the year, if they pass the subway operator's tests.
