A retired professor from Beijing Union University, who cheated 140 students and parents out of 19 million yuan by claiming he could get them into a military university, stood trial yesterday at Beijing No.2 Intermediate Court, the Legal Mirror reported.
Sun Qianfo, 73, established a consultation company and then met five men in 2003, who pretended to be military officials. The six then cheated the students, who had failed their college entrance exams, and their parents, charging each family 100,000 yuan.
The five fake soldiers were previously sentenced to terms of up to life in prison.
