    Hot, dry weather rules China in 2011

    Beijing (CNS) -– The average temperature in China was 9.3℃ in 2011, marking a 15-year warming trend, according to the 2011 report on China's weather released by the China Meteorological Administration on January 6.

    Last year witnessed the highest frequency of scorching weather days since 1961, especially in southern China, said the report. Total precipitation was 556.8 millimeters, a 9.1 percent decrease from 2010, reaching the lowest point since 1951.

    Financial losses caused by natural disasters reached 303 billion yuan, a little higher than the average level for the past decade, said Song Lianchun, director of the National Climate Center.

    A total of 1,049 people were killed or lost due to meteorological disasters in 2011, he added.
