Back of the bus

When Zhang, a resident of Lanzhou, Gansu Province passed by a bus station a few days ago, he was completely taken aback by what he saw: A bus driver was relieving himself behind the vehicle. As he watched, he saw a number of drivers take their turn in the improvised toilet.

"Although there's no passenger at the terminus, it's still uncivilized to urinate beside the bus," said Zhang.

Finding a toilet is a big nuisance for the bus drivers, because few toilets are around the bus stops, said Lu, an official from a local bus company.

"It's true that some drivers relieve themselves at the back door of the bus once they arrive at the terminus, but they have no other choice," said Lu.

For female drivers, even if they are dying to go to the toilet, they have to wait till they get back to the terminus.

"Sometimes, when I reach the station and I can no longer control myself, I will get off the bus and relieve myself, or else I have to suffer from the gnawing pain on the return journey," said one driver.
