(Ecns.cn)--Monks of the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Tibet were offered social insurance at a presentation ceremony held by the administrative committee of the monastery on Friday.
The vice chairman of the Tibetan Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) attended the ceremony and presented the social insurance cards to the monks.
"We are thankful for the love of the Party and government. The practice has removed our worries. We should nourish our minds with Buddhism doctrines and set a good example for young monks," said a monk.
According to Tibet Daily, all 817 monks at Tashilhunpo Monastery have been covered by medical insurance, with single individuals paying 60 yuan and the country 52 yuan every year. Monks older than 60 are each provided with a 120-yuan pension every month.
