(Ecns.cn)—As one of the most afflicted groups struggling to find a job in Taiwan, many PhD students are turning to the Chinese mainland for opportunities, according to the People's Daily Overseas Edition Friday. So far, more than 20 such talents haveteamed up flocking to Xiamen in search of jobs.
Due to the rapid increase in PhD students—triple that of a decade ago—the employment market for the group in Taiwan has gotten tougher these years. As many as one hundred of such talents have to fight for one position in college,according to local media. "Job opportunities for PhD graduates have evaporated since the financial crisis," said Zhang Yahui, a public relations manage from a HR company.
Though the local government has been allocating funds, as well as implementing policies to promote the employment of PhD students, "only 68% of those who graduated in 2008 have now found a full-time job," said He Zhuofei, government official in charge of higher education in Taiwan.
As a result, many have started to consider finding a job in the nearby province of Fujian, where the local government held a "Taiwan Talents Fair" earlier this year. However, the competition is equally intense on the mainland, which poses another challenge to those coming to Fujian Province.
