(Ecns.cn)--A massive and ancient collection of tombs was recently found at the Tiger Hill (Huqiu in Chinese) area, the most famous scenic spot in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and is now under investigation by Chinese archeologists, according to the Yangtse Evening Post on Friday.

There are 41 graves from six dynasties there, the oldest of which can be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 AD to 220 AD), making the place a rare archaeological discovery in Suzhou, according to preliminary research by the archeologists.

Most of them are family graves built during the Ming (1368 to 1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. "Graves built during the Qing Dynasty were preserved completely, while others were almost ruined as time went by," said an archeologist.

The grave site used to be a huge earth mound before the discovery. It is higher than a two-story house and was used by locals as a field to grow vegetables.

A small part of the grave site has been presented, but because there are high-tension cable towers around the tombs, the excavation will last for some time, said an archeologist.
